Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer holding up the new ThinkPad X41 Tablet, from China's Lenovo Group, at Microsoft's TechEd 2005 back in June. Ballmer was quoted as saying that the tablet will run on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

Gateway's new CX2600 notebook family, starting at $1,349, has a 14-inch wide screen that swivels around on a titanium frame. The 6-pound tablet comes with a flash card reader, wireless networking and slots for batteries that last for up to nine hours.


Think tablet PCs are too expensive? Prices for Hewlett-Packard' s Compaq tc4200, which was first released in February 2005, start at $1,599, which is $44 less than a similarly outfitted Compaq nc4200 notebook.

Lenovo's X41T tablet is the first ThinkPad with a screen that swivels around to make a tablet PC. Retailing for $1,899, the tablet is Lenovo's first offering following its purchase of IBM's PC business earlier this year.


At just 2.2 pounds, the Fujitsu Siemens P1510 LifeBook convertible manages to squeeze in an 8.9-inch wide screen, 1.2GHz processor, 60GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, Wi-If and Blue tooth. The notebook was released on Aug. 8 and retails for $1,499.


Convertibles may be the new fashion trend, but slate tablets have some sizzle too. Motion Computing's LE1600 is used by hospitals and insurance agents. The tablet retails for $2,049 and comes with a 1.5GHz Intel processor, 512MB of RAM and a 30GB hard drive.

Acer was one of the first computer companies to make a tablet PC. Its fourth-generation TravelMat--the C310--retails for $1,649.99 and features a 14-inch screen, an Intel Pentium M processor, 8.5 hours of battery life (when the battery extender is used) and a two-spindle convertible tablet design.

Nokia N95 Cellphone has Wings, 5MP Cam, GPS, HSDPA

Nokia dropped word of their N95 multimedia computer today. (We still call em cellphones, but don't tell Nokia that or they'll bop us on the head...again)
The smartphone has a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, which they say can take dvd-like video clips. Does that mean 848 by 480? I don't know. it also has a 2.6-inch QVGA screen, and runs on the well supported Symbian 60 OS. It also has HSDPA and EDGE cellular data. Oh, it has nice Flickr integration with the photos you take. And it's got this "2-way slider" thingamabob that kicks out both a numeric keypad and media control keys. Sounds like...a butterfly...pretty, but sounds like a complicated setup from a company I used to call the Apple of cellphone-dom.

Nokia N75 Smartphone, 20.2mm Thin

The smartphones get smaller and thinner, and Nokia rolled out its N75 clamshell WCDMA and GSM smartphone today that's just 20.2mm thick. It has a 2-megapixel camera and a 2.4-inch 320x240 screen inside, and music keys on the outside. It includes Nokia's Internet browser and e-mail, too, and lets you view e-mail attachments in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and even the loathsome PDF format.
The company says the N75 can standby for 200 hours and will let you gab for 250 minutes before the battery runs out. Price and release date weren't announced

Train Genibo to walk over to you and recite phone numbers or your schedule, or you can train him to tell you to go to hell if you want to. Or just enlist your kids to do those things for you for free. No pricing or in availability information was revealed yet.

Samsung has added two new robot vacuums to their lineup in Korea, the Zairo-designed (who?) VC-RS60 and VC-RS60H. Although the robots self-recharge like good robots do, they also can be called up when you're out and told to clean up the place.

Having had two Roombas crap out on me in the last few weeks—one stopped spinning its little edge brush; the other committed seppuku by stairwell—I'm beginning to question the wisdom of putting expensive moving machinery into the dust and grime that is its worst enemy
